History

Speed roulette is the online-casino era version of classic European roulette. The wheel and the numbers 0–36 are identical, but the rhythm of the round is compressed: no long betting pause, a short spin, and an immediate move to the next round. The idea came from live casinos wanting to offer more rounds per hour.

Speed roulette is part of a wider online-casino trend of accelerating the pace of games: the more rounds per hour, the more revenue the house edge collects. The same logic appears in "turbo" modes on slots and in sped-up card games. Speed is sold to the player as entertainment, but its real effect is financial.

Where it is played today

Speed roulette is played above all at online live-dealer tables, where speed is a selling point. The same single-zero mathematics as European roulette — only the tempo is different.

Rules

The rules are exactly the same as European roulette: numbers 0–36, inside and outside bets, the same payout table. The only difference is tempo — the spin is fast and you can place new bets immediately once the previous round is resolved.

Odds & the maths

The odds are identical to European roulette: a single number pays 35:1, even-money bets 1:1, the dozens 2:1, house edge 2.70%. The important lesson: speed does not change the odds, but it changes how much you stake per hour. The same house edge multiplied across more rounds means a faster loss — pace is the player enemy.

Work it out yourself: if in ordinary roulette you manage 30 rounds an hour and in the speed version 90, you bet three times as much in the same time. The 2.70% house edge stays the same, but it applies to three times the total stake — so the expected loss per hour also triples. Controlling the pace is the player’s most important "strategy" in a game that has no real strategy.

The odds are the same as European roulette. Speed does not change the house edge per round — but it multiplies the number of rounds per hour.

Beginner’s guide

Play it like European roulette, but watch your own tempo: because the spin is fast, it is easy to bet more than you intended. A good exercise is to set yourself a per-round budget and stick to it. Pick a chip value, click the table, press Spin — and notice how quickly the rounds add up.
