Fruit Slot
Paytable (5 of a kind on a line)
5 reels · 5 lines · fruit symbols
History
Fruit symbols appeared on slot machines in the early 1900s. When gambling was banned in parts of the United States, machines paid out winnings as chewing gum — symbols like cherries and lemons depicted the gum flavours. That became the visual language of fruit slots, which survives to this day.
In Britain fruit machines became their own cultural phenomenon, often with special skill elements such as "nudge" and "hold" — the player can influence where the reels stop in a limited way. In mainland Europe and online the version is usually pure chance without these elements. Same visual language, different game mechanics.
Where it is played today
Fruit slots are especially popular in Britain, where they are called "fruit machines", as well as in mainland European pubs and online. The five-reel version is a modern expansion of the classic three-reel machine.
Rules
The game has five reels and three rows. Five paylines run through the grid (the centre row, the top and bottom rows, and two V shapes). You bet per active line. If a line shows five matching symbols reading from the left, you win according to the paytable.
Odds & the maths
Each reel has eight symbols. The probability of five of a kind on one line for a specific symbol is (1/8)⁵ ≈ 1/32,768. Because you bet on five lines, there are more chances to win, but the total stake is also five times larger. The game’s RTP comes from the sum of all line wins — increasing the total stake does not change the percentage, only the size of the bet.
In a five-line game it is good to understand the difference between "win frequency" and "return". More lines produce hits more often, which feels good — but because you bet each line separately, the total stake also grows. The game’s RTP is the sum of the expected values of all lines, and changing the number of lines does not change this percentage at all.
| Combination on a line | Pays | Probability |
|---|---|---|
| 5 × a specific symbol | 5×–100× | 1 in 32,768 (0.003%) |
| Any five of a kind | 5×–100× | 8 in 32,768 (0.024%) |
| 5 lines, 1 win / spin | — | ~0.12% / spin |
A win needs five matching symbols on a line from the left. Five lines give more chances to hit, but the total stake is also five times larger.
Beginner’s guide
Adjust the per-line bet with the +/− buttons; "Total bet" shows the sum across five lines. Press Spin. Paylines are always counted from left to right. A good lesson: more lines feels safer, but it just spreads the same house edge across more places — it does not remove it.
