Video Slot
Paytable (3+ alike from the left)
5 reels · 20 lines · gemstones
History
The video slot was born in 1976, when the first screen-based slot machine was introduced in Las Vegas instead of mechanical reels. The screen freed designers from the constraints of physical reels: suddenly there could be dozens of paylines, animations and bonus rounds. This is the base form of modern online slots.
The first video slot of 1976, Fortune Coin, initially met suspicion — players did not trust a screen the way they trusted mechanical reels. Once the Nevada gaming authority approved it, the video slot took over casinos quickly. The screen enabled bonus rounds, animations and dozens of paylines — all things physical reels could not do.
Where it is played today
Video slots are by far the most common type of slot machine, both in physical casinos and online worldwide. When people talk about "slots" today, they practically mean the video slot.
Rules
Five reels, three rows, 20 fixed paylines. Unlike the classic, you already win with three matching symbols on a line reading from the left — three, four or five pay different amounts. You bet on all 20 lines at once.
Odds & the maths
Each reel has eight symbols. With 20 lines there are far more ways to win than with one, but each line is paid only at the per-line bet, not the total bet. The game’s RTP is the sum of the expected values of all lines. An important observation: many lines mean more frequent but on average small wins — psychologically this makes the game feel more rewarding than it is.
The video slot’s central psychological mechanism is the "loss disguised as a win": you get a hit, you hear a winning sound and see lights — but the win is smaller than your stake. The brain registers it as a win, even though the balance falls. This is not a flaw but a designed feature. Knowing that it happens is the best protection against it.
| Combination on a line | Pays (multiplier) | Probability / line |
|---|---|---|
| 3 alike from the left | 2×–25× | ~1.5% |
| 4 alike from the left | 5×–100× | ~0.2% |
| 5 alike from the left | 10×–500× | 1 in 32,768 |
| 5 × 💎 (top) | 500× | 1 in 32,768 |
20 lines mean more frequent but on average small wins. Most "wins" are smaller than the stake — that is a central design feature of the video slot.
Beginner’s guide
Adjust the line bet with the +/− buttons. "Total bet" is line bet × 20. Press Spin. Winning symbols are highlighted. As you play this, watch how often you get a "win" that is still smaller than your stake — that is a central design feature of the video slot.
